During Monday’s press conference, Pierce spoke about the decision to replace Minshew with Aidan O’Connell late in the fourth quarter of the team’s 36-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
When asked if Minshew would be the starter moving forward, Pierce did not give a definitive answer, saying he has to “speak to his players” before deciding.

Minshew finished the game 15 of 28 for 214 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. O’Connell finished the game for the Raiders, ending with 9 of 12 completions for 82 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions.
After Sunday’s loss, Pierce called out the leadership of his team, accusing some of his players of quitting, for lack of a better term.
“I think as the game went on — I don’t think it was the team,” Pierce said via Ari Meirov. “I think there was definitely some individuals that made business decisions, and we’ll make business decisions going forward as well.”
