Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is dealing with a high ankle sprain. Will the two-time MVP suit up and play against the Houston Texans?

Will Patrick Mahomes Start On Saturday?

After days of uncertainty, head coach Andy Reid made things official on Thursday. Mahomes will “most likely” start on Saturday when the Chiefs play the Texans.

Reid told the media that Mahomes worked out this week as a full participant in practice. Mahomes carries no injury designation for the game.

“He did look good out there,” Reid said about Mahomes (via Sideline Sarah). “He moved around pretty good. So, you’re always looking to make sure they can get out the way, not to further any harm to them. So that’s what I look at.”

Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 21-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Carson Wentz came into the game and replaced Mahomes.

This season, Mahomes has thrown for 3,348 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions with a completion percentage of 66.7%.

Chiefs Could Potentially Lock Up No. 1 Seed

The Chiefs have already clinched the AFC West. However, they could potentially lock up the No. 1 seed in the AFC by Sunday night.

Heading into Week 16, the Chiefs hold a two-game lead over the Buffalo Bills (11-3).

The Chiefs will clinch the No. 1 seed with a win over the Texans and a loss by the Bills, who play the New England Patriots on Sunday night.

Saturday marks the second game in the Chiefs’ difficult stretch, where they will play three games in 11 days. The final game of this stretch comes on Christmas against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Chiefs (13-1) host the visiting Texans (9-5) on Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. ET.
