NFL Head Coach Says Tyler Shough Is “Better Than Cam Ward”

Cam Ward is a heavy favorite to be selected with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. But according to at least one current NFL head coach, he might not be the best quarterback prospect in this year’s class.
NFL Head Coach Says Tyler Shough Is Better Than Cam Ward
Ward has been the consensus number one overall selection for well over a month now. There were murmurs at the beginning of the evaluation process that guys like Shedeur Sanders or Abdul Carter could have been the top pick, but the Miami quarterback now has betting odds that are listed at -20000 to be selected first.
But according to one NFL head coach, Ward might not be the best QB in this year’s class. It isn’t Sanders, either, and not even Jaxon Dart.
One of the of the 2025 Draft Class who has seen the most significant rise in recent weeks is Tyler Shough out of Louisville. He has impressed scouts on multiple occasions with his accuracy and anticipation, and is considered by some to be the most NFL-ready of this year’s prospects.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, at least one unnamed NFL coach has explicitly stated that he believes that Shough is “better than Cam Ward.” There is no specific details given as to who exactly gave the strong statement, but Russini discloses that it is not Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan.
The Titans are in desperate need of a signal caller in this year’s draft, and are in perfect position to select Ward. Thanks to the worst record in the NFL in 2024, Tennessee has the rights to the first overall pick, and there have been no substantial rumors about them trading down or moving off of the selection in any way.
Shough is a big a question mark as any of the other QBs in this year’s class. It is still widely unknown where Sanders will end up, and there are a handful of throwers that are labeled as early second round talents, which Shough is currently a part of.
