NFL Draft: Steelers Are Now The Favorites To Draft Shedeur Sanders

The New Orleans Saints have been the team most discussed when it comes to Colorado’s 2025 NFL Draft, there is a new team that is an overwhelming favorite to select the polarizing quarterback prospect.
NFL Draft Rumors: Steelers Now Favorites To Land Shedeur Sanders
It appeared that the Saints would be in the best position to select Sanders. Given their issues at the position with Derek Carr’s recently-discovered injury, New Orleans is in need of a signal caller not only for the 2025 campaign, but into the future as well. They hold the rights to the 9th overall pick in tonight’s selection process, and had been the favorites to select Sanders for the last couple of weeks.
But the odds board took a serious shift in the early hours of Thursday morning. After holding a designation of +600 as recent as April 8th, the Pittsburgh Steelers are now sitting as the overwhelming favorite to be the NFL team who drafts Sanders. They are now listed at -140, with the second-closest team being the New York Giants at +550.

The Cleveland Browns share that +550 designation, while the Saints have been pushed all the way back to +700, making them something of a long shot in the category.
Does that mean that the Steelers are going to have to trade up in order to make it happen? They currently hold the 21st overall pick, and some believed that Sanders would off of the board by that point. It is unclear whether Pittsburgh being a favorite means that the sportsbooks like the odds of the quarterback falling into the 20s, or if they believe that Mike Tomlin and company will have to trade up in order to get it done.
The latter would be a tough proposition. Few teams have less firepower in this year’s NFL Draft than the Steelers, who have just two picks within the top 120 this year. A trade up would likely cost them capital in a future draft, and whether they’d be willing to sacrifice that type of compensation is questionable.
The change in betting odds also affects the situation with Aaron Rodgers. The 41-year-old quarterback has flirted with Pittsburgh in recent weeks, but no decision has been made on his future. The team may be putting those negotiations behind them, though, as they must address the position at some point this off-season and are running out of time and options.
