The NFL season with a record of 5-12, marking their only last place finish in the NFC South since 2008. They entered the off-season with plenty of roster holes to fill and limited money in order to do so, and haven’t exactly made the moves necessary for marked improvement.

Could The Saints Finish With The Worst Record In The NFL In 2025?

Barring some kind of 11th hour, miracle overhaul, they’ll be projected to be one of the worst teams in 2025, which is something that the oddsmakers agree with.

Even before Saturday’s news, the Saints outlook for the campaign was grim. But upon the announcement that quarterback Derek Carr was set to retire, an already dire situation in the QB room took a turn for the worst. The two returning players on the depth chart are Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener, who combined to post a record of 0-7, which included five touchdown es and six interceptions.

It was the Saints who were widely considered to be the favorites to address the QB situation in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Shedeur Sanders, but they waited until the second round to select a thrower. It was Tyler Shough that they picked with the 40th overall selection, who was a second-tier prospect at best in this year’s class.

Without answers under center, and with other noticeable holes and deficiencies on the roster, it is increasingly likely that the Saints will be one of the worst teams in the NFL this coming year. According to the sportsbooks, only one team has better odds of finishing with a worse record. The oddsmakers have set New Orleans’ over/under win total at 6.5, which is tied with the Cleveland Browns for the lowest projection.

When it comes to the wagering on “Which NFL team will have the fewest wins”, the Browns are sitting at +475 with the Saints just behind at +500.

There is still a full summer ahead of us, and the team could have a plan for their quarterback position that improves their current talent. But essentially all of the options are dried up, and any Kirk Cousins talk can easily be shut down simply due to money and contracts.
