NASCAR Xfinity Series Connor Zilisch will have the weekend off.

Reporting back issues following his hard last-lap crash last Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway, one of the circuit’s top rookies will sit out Saturday’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.

The extent of Zilisch’s injuries were not reported.

In 11 starts, Zilisch piloted the No. 88 Chevrolet to one win and three top-10 finishes. He ranks sixth in the driver standings with 299 points, 150 behind Justin Allgaier. The circuit leader drew the top sports-betting odds to earn a trip to Victory Lane Saturday, according to BetOnline Sportsbook. Sam Mayer (+500) was listed with the second- best odds, followed by Jesse Love (+700), who caused Zilisch’s accident last weekend.

Cup regular Kyle Larson was tabbed to replace the 18-year-old driver. Following the Texas event, the Xfinity Series will be off for consecutive weekends, returning May 24 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The extra time should give Zilisch time to heal.

Larson will appear in his third Truck Series race this season, winning at Homestead and placing P2 at Bristol.

JR Motorsports applied for a playoff waiver for Zilisch, which reportedly was granted. Zilisch captured the road course race at COTA. Breaking out last year with five ARCA Menards Series wins in eight outings, Zilisch created a memorable Xfinity Series debut at Watkins Glen, claiming the title from the pole.

In 15 Xfinity starts over the past two seasons, Zilisch compiled four poles and six top 10s.
