Carson Hocevar, a NASCAR Cup Series regular, reed the Craftsman Truck Series field and captured Saturday’s event at Kansas Speedway. A riled Hocevar held off Layne Riggs for the win. He did it with emphasis on his attitude toward his rival.

“He won the race, and you know, I think he was mad at me. I think he flipped me off all the way down the frontstretch coming to the checkered,” Riggs told Newsweek after the race. “But how can you be mad when you win the race, right? But it’s all good. It’s great to race with them Cup guys, and I think that just proves that I’m going to be there one day.”

Riggs probably wanted to emphasize his post-race attitude toward race officials after he learned his P2 turned into a P31 after he was disqualified for a bed cover infraction, which violated Section 14.4.9.A in the NASCAR rule book.

Another Cup regular, William Byron, was elevated to a runner-up finish, followed on the podium by Corey Heim. The Truck points leader placed P13 during his Cup debut at Kansas on Sunday.

With his P2 vanquished, Riggs, who has not qualified for the playoffs through nine races, enters next Saturday’s event at North Wilkesboro Speedway ranked No. 9 in the drivers’ standings, 164 points behind pace-setter Heim (412 points).
