Corey Heim took the blame.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points leader received an opportunity to compete in Sunday’s Cup Series event at Nashville Superspeedway.
While he continues to dominate the third-tier stock-car racing circuit, Heim made a rookie mistake during the Cracker Barrel 400.
On Lap 132, Heim, piloting the No. 67 Toyota for 23XI Racing, cut in front of the No. 6 Ford approaching Turn 4 at the 1.33-mile concrete oval. Racing in the middle of the field, Keselowski didn’t appreciate the aggressive move from a part-time driver.
The 2012 Cup champion took Heim out. Lesson learned. Heim, who posted four wins and eight top-five finishes in 12 Truck Series starts, ed a DNF Sunday. Keselowski placed P23.
“I’m pretty sure I just kind of cleared myself across the nose of the 6,” Heim told reporters after the race. “A little bit too desperate. We were moving forward really quickly, and I had a lot of confidence and thought I could clear him by the time I got to the wall and just used too much race track, so sorry to those guys. It looks like I kind of ruined his day, too, and never want to do that.”
Heim will return to headline the Truck Series next weekend at Michigan International Speedway. With 566 points, he leads the drivers’ standings by 122 points over Daniel Hemric, who jumped Chandler Smith by three points.
