Michigan men’s basketball coach Dusty May has signed a new contract extension to remain with the team, the school announced Friday.

May is going to be the Michigan coach for the foreseeable future.
Per CBS Sports, May’s new deal adds one year to his contract, which now runs through the spring of 2030.
May’s annual salary increases by $1 million, from $3.75 million to $4.75 million.
May’s buyout now rises to $7.5 million.
“I am excited to announce that Dusty and I have agreed to a new multi-year contract,” said Michigan’s AD Warde Manuel. “His commitment to this University and the success of the men’s basketball program has far exceeded our expectations and makes us all excited for what the future holds. I look forward to Dusty, Anna, and his family remaining a part of the fabric of this University and community for many years to come.”
The extension essentially removes May from contention for the vacancy at Indiana. May was a student manager for Bob Knight from 1996-2000.
“I think it makes it obvious: I’m staying at Michigan,” May told CBS Sports when asked about the Indiana job. “I really wasn’t interested in leveraging in negotiating” with Michigan as the team works toward a high NCAA Tournament seed.”
May previously spent six seasons coaching the FAU Owls (2018-2024), leading them to the Final Four in 2022-2023.
In his first season at Michigan, the No. 12 Wolverines are 20-6.

Kansas’ Bill Self remains the highest-paid coach in college basketball, making approximately $9.6 million this season.
UConn’s Danny Hurley signed a six-year, $50 million contract after winning his second consecutive National Championship. Hurley’s average annual salary of $8.3 million is second only to Self.
Arkansas John Calipari makes about $7 million annually.
