The Detroit Lions thought they lost David Montgomery to a knee injury. Now, the Lions could see Montgomery back for their playoff run.

David Montgomery Could Be Back For The Divisional Round

During Tuesday’s press conference, Lions head coach Dan Campbell gave a two-word answer when asked if he expects Montgomery to play in the Divisional Round.

“I do,” Campbell said.

Montgomery suffered an MCL injury in the Lions’ Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The initial diagnosis was that Montgomery needed surgery. After seeking multiple opinions, Montgomery received an option that required rehab, with an outside chance of returning for the playoffs.

Per Campbell, it sounds like the rehab is going well for Montgomery, and he’ll be ready for the Divisional Round.

Montgomery will be a major addition to the Lions’ offense, which averaged an NFL-leading 33.2 points per game. Montgomery rushed for 775 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games.

Montgomery and fellow running back form one of the best duos in the NFL. The tandem is known as “Sonic and Knuckles.”

Lions Earn First-Round Bye

The Lions won the NFC North with a 31-9 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18.

Gibbs was sensational, rushing for 139 yards and three touchdowns. Gibbs also caught five es for 31 yards and one touchdown.

Along with the NFC North, the Lions (15-2) secured the No. 1 seed in the NFL. More importantly, the injury-riddled Lions earned a first-round bye.

The Lions will host their opponent during the Divisional Weekend on Saturday, Jan. 18, or Sunday, Jan. 19.
