On Thursday, the Chargers announced that Herbert was diagnosed with a plantar fascia injury in his right foot following Wednesday’s practice.
Herbert will wear a walking boot for at least two weeks. Herbert will follow a “graduated return to play protocol” before returning to the field.
The team expects Herbert to be ready to play come Week 1.
Herbert began his career as a poster boy for durability, starting 62 straight games. However, Herbert suffered a season-ending finger injury in December to miss the final four games of 2023.
The Chargers went 0-4 without Herbert.

With Herbert out for the foreseeable future, who will step under center for the Chargers?
The Chargers have three other quarterbacks on their roster: Easton Stick, Max Duggan, and Casey Bauman.
Stick is the only one of the trio with regular-season experience. The former 2019 fifth-round pick started the final four games of the 2023 season, throwing for 1,129 yards, three TDs, and one interception with five fumbles.
The Herbert injury is not an ideal scenario for first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh. However, the injury could have been a lot worse.
The Chargers welcome the Las Vegas Raiders to Los Angeles in Week 1.
