Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts is already making history this year just by appearing at the Super Bowl, as he becomes the first quarterback since 1998 to get a second chance at glory after losing on his first attempt.

Second time lucky for Jalen Hurts?

Jalen Hurts is on a revenge mission this year and he is looking to some of the NFL’s most elite quarterbacks in coming back from a Super Bowl loss to find success.

It has only been two years since the Philadelphia Eagles fell short of the Chiefs by just three points at Super Bowl LVII, but a lot has changed in that time.

Hurts himself was exceptional in his first Super Bowl appearance, throwing for 304 yards and completing 27/38 attempts in the season finale.

Despite his 374 all purpose yards, Hurts was unable to get past Patrick Mahomes who just has a knack of finding a way to win late in the day and he ed a long list of quarterback starters to lose on their Super Bowl debut.

36 quarterback’s have lost on their Super Bowl debut and just 8.3% of those have come back to lift the Vince Lombardi.

There has been just three players who have managed to win a Super Bowl after losing on their first appearance, with Jalen Hurts looking to be the fourth.

QB’s to win Super Bowl after losing debut

  • John Elway: Lost debut in 1987 before winning in 1998 & 1999
  • Len Dawson: Lost debut in 1967 before winning in 1970
  • Bob Griese: Lost debut in 1972 before winning in 1973 & 1974

ing Elway, Dawson and Griese in coming back from a Super Bowl loss would be pretty special for Hurts, who would undoubtedly go down as one of the Eagles’ best quarterbacks in history with a win this season.

Hurts is already making history though, as the 26-year-old will become just the third QB to start multiple Super Bowls for an NFC side since 2003.

The other two players to start more than one game are Russell Wilson and Eli Manning, who both won a Super Bowl in their career.
