Jaguars Sign CB Tyson Campbell to Four-Year, $76.5M Contract Extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Tyson Campbell to a four-year, $76.5 million contract extension on Tuesday, making him one of the NFL’s highest-paid cornerbacks.

Campbell, 24, is now the sixth-highest-paid corner in the league. The multi-year deal also includes $53.4 million guaranteed. There are additional incentives that bring the contract’s worth to $19.3 million per year.

According to Spotrac, Green Bay’s Jaire Alexander is the league’s highest-paid cornerback in of annual average salary at $21 million. This is part of the four-year, $84 million contract he signed in May 2022.

Cleveland’s Denzel Ward ($20.1 million) is next, followed by Miami’s Jalen Ramsey ($20 million), Baltimore’s Marlon Humphrey ($19.5 million), New Orleans’ Marshon Lattimore ($19.4 million) and Dallas’ Trevon Diggs ($19.4 million).

“Tyson is a young, talented player who is an integral part of our defense and core member of our locker room,” Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement.

“He is a consummate professional on and off the field and we are confident that his best lies ahead. We have consistently messaged the importance of extending our core players and this is another step forward in honoring that commitment.”

The Jaguars selected Campbell 33rd overall during the second round of the 2021 draft out of the University of Georgia. In 43 career games (42 starts) across three seasons, he has six interceptions, 30 breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and 203 tackles.

Although Campbell has never made a Pro Bowl, his best season was back in 2022. In 17 games (all starts), he recorded three interceptions, 15 breakups, two fumble recoveries, and 70 tackles.

In 2023, he was limited to 11 games because of a hamstring injury. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder had just one interception, a career-low 60 tackles, 19 assists on tackles, and five breakups.

Hie lone interception came in Week 1 against Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Campbell is the third player to sign a long-term deal with the Jaguars this offseason. rusher Josh Hines-Allen signed a five-year, $141.25 million contract with $76.5 million fully guaranteed in April, while quarterback Trevor Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million contract with $142 million fully guaranteed in June.

Hines-Allen’s $28.25 million annual salary is second only to San Francisco’s Nick Bosa ($34 million). Lawrence’s $55 million annual salary ties him with Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow as the NFL’s highest-paid QB.

Additionally, the Jaguars’ preseason runs from Aug. 10 through Aug. 23. Jacksonville is at Miami on Sept. 8 to open the 2024 NFL season. The Jags will also play back-to-back games in the U.K. in October.
