Jaguars, QB Trevor Lawrence Agree to Five-Year, $275M Deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence have agreed on a five-year, $275 million contract extension on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The multi-year contract includes $200 million guaranteed, including $142 million at g. Lawrence’s $55 million average salary ties him with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow for the highest mark in the NFL.

Lawrence, who turns 25 years old on Oct. 6, becomes the sixth quarterback to have an annual salary above $50 million. According to Pro-Football-Reference, the Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff ($53 million), Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert ($52.5 million), Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson ($52 million), and Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts ($51 million) are the other quarterbacks whose average annually salary tops $50 million.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who just won his third Super Bowl, is the seventh-highest paid quarterback at $46.3 million annually.

Lawrence’s new contract makes him the ninth quarterback with $100 million or more fully guaranteed, ing the Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson ($230 million), Burrow (146.5 million), Jackson ($135 million), Herbert (133.7 million), Goff ($113.6 million), Hurts ($110 million), the Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray (103.3 million), and Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen ($100 million).

Lawrence led the Jags to an 8-3 start last season

The Jaguars selected Lawrence first overall in the 2021 draft out of Clemson. He underperformed as a rookie, throwing a league-high 17 interceptions, under head coach Urban Meyer, who was fired after only 13 games.

In 2022, he tallied career highs of 25 touchdowns and 4,113 ing yards, while leading the Jaguars to the AFC South title and rallying the team from a 27-point deficit to a 31-30 win over the Chargers in a wild-card playoff game. However, Jacksonville went on to lose against Kansas City in a divisional-round matchup.

Additionally, in 16 games (all starts) in the 2023 season, he recorded 21 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 4,016 ing yards, and an 88.5 er rating.

Last season, Lawrence also led the Jaguars to an 8-3 start. Overall, it was not a bad season statistically.

Nevertheless, he suffered a concussion among ankle and shoulder injuries over the final six weeks of the season. Jacksonville finished 1-5 in its last six games and missed the playoffs.

Lawrence is currently fourth all time in Jaguars history in ing yards (11,770) and ing touchdowns (58). The 6-foot-6, 220-pound quarterback is 21-31 as a starter (including playoffs).

Furthermore, Lawrence improved under head coach Doug Pederson, throwing for 4,113 yards and 25 touchdowns with only eight interceptions in 2022. Although the Jaguars started the season 3-7, they went 6-1 in the last seven games and won the AFC South.
