Isaiah Likely Wants To Eventually Take Lamar Jackson Jersey No. 8

Tight end Isaiah Likely has expressed a desire to wear jersey number 8 for the Baltimore Ravens. That would mean taking over the digit from MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, who himself said he would want to change his number if his team ever won the Super Bowl.
Lamar Jackson Could Switch To Jersey No.1
Back in 2021, Jackson was interviewed by the Ravens’ team podcast “The Lounge”, and spoke about his thoughts on his uniform number. “If we win the Super Bowl, I’m going no.1,” the QB said. “My dad told me, ‘Get no.1 because that’s the best. You’re the best.’ And it always stuck with me.”

So when Likely was asked by Kay Adams earlier this week about potentially changing numbers, the 25-year-old tight end brought up his quarterback’s previous comments. He said that he would like to eventually switch to a single-digit number from his current jersey number 80, and Adams suggested either no.1 or no.3.
That is when Likely brought up Jackson’s comments from four years ago:
“1 is on standby for that boy that wears 8…Once we hold that Lombardi…When we win, 8 is gonna, boom, switch to 1. Then I’m gonna look at 8.”
Adams was surprised by the quote, and Likely assured that he would have to ask Lamar Jackson about the potential switch before anything actually took place.

Isaiah Likely had his best season as a pro in 2024 as he became one of the team’s top receiving options. He finished the year with 42 catches, 477 yards, and 6 touchdowns, all of which were career highs. He is expected to play an even bigger role in the coming years as Mark Andrews ages.
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens had yet another stellar regular season in 2024, but continued in their tendency of coming up short in the playoffs. They’ve qualified for the postseason in five of Jackson’s six seasons as a starter, but have only advanced past the divisional round one time. Their most recent campaign was ended by the Buffalo Bills in the second round.
