What will be the highest-grossing movie of 2025? Can A Minecraft Movie ride its huge opening weekend to a $1 billion gross?

View the odds for the projected highest-grossing movies of 2025 below.

A Minecraft Movie’s Historic Opening Weekend

A Minecraft Movie defied expectations for its opening weekend box office.

Released on April 4, A Minecraft Movie collected $163 million during its opening weekend. That’s the biggest domestic opening of 2025.

The records don’t stop there.

A Minecraft Movie sured The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($146.3 million) for the biggest domestic opening for a movie based on a video game.

It’s a much-needed win for Warner Bros., which had experienced several misfires, including Joker 2 and Mickey 17. A Minecraft Movie is Warner’s biggest opening weekend since 2023’s Barbie.

Add in a global opening weekend of $150 million, and A Minecraft Movie made $313 million worldwide over three days.

How much higher will A Minecraft Movie go? Can it reach $1 billion worldwide?

Suring $1 billion is unlikely. However, A Minecraft Movie is undoubtedly a hit. If it reaches $700 million, that’s a huge win for Warner Bros., and a sequel will be greenlit.

Keep in mind that these numbers reflect domestic projections, not worldwide.

If this were worldwide odds, Avatar 3 would be the heavy favorite, considering the first two movies both grossed over $2 billion.

However, domestic odds have Zootopia 2 (+194) as the favorite to be the highest-grossing movie of 2025 (domestic). Zootopia was the seventh-highest-grossing movie of 2016 ($341.3 million).

Zootopia 2 also has a prime Thanksgiving Day weekend release, which could lead to a massive holiday haul.

A Minecraft Movie (+285) is currently second, with Jurassic World Rebirth (+488), a franchise that typically does well overseas, in third.
