Last offseason, Davis signed a three-year, $39 million contract, with $24 million guaranteed.
14 months later, Davis needs a new team.
The Jaguars announced Davis’ release on Wednesday morning. Davis will be designated as a post-June 1 release. Jacksonville will absorb a $5.7 million dead cap hit.
Without designating Davis as a post-June 1 release, the dead cap would have been $20.3 million. The Jaguars will earn $794,118 in cap savings after June 1.
Davis was supposed to be another weapon for quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
However, the g failed, as Davis had his worst season as a pro. Davis caught 20 es for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games. Davis suffered a season-ending torn meniscus in his left knee.
The new Jaguars regime — including first-year coach Liam Coen and first-time general manager James Gladstone — clearly wanted to find cheaper options to pair with Brian Thomas Jr.
The Jaguars traded Christian Kirk to the Houston Texans and watched Evan Engram sign with the Denver Broncos in free agency.

With Davis hitting free agency, which teams should be looking to sign the 26-year-old wide receiver?
The Buffalo Bills should be looking to reunite with Davis, who had his best seasons with quarterback Josh Allen.
Davis provides a deep threat to Allen and will fit in with Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Joshua Palmer.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in desperate need of a second option after trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.
DK Metcalf is the top option. Robert Woods, Calvin Austin III, Scotty Miller, Roman Wilson, and Ben Skowronek are the options for the No. 2 wide receiver.
Davis could easily walk in and provide the Steelers a deep threat down the field.
