Floyd Mayweather Leads Group To Buy Stake In Giants

Per TMZ Sports, Mayweather and his business partner, Meyer Orbach, are putting together an offer to buy a stake in the Giants.

The duo will likely add another investor to the team.

“My partners and I are always looking at different opportunities, including ownership of sports teams. I can’t comment further than that,” Orbach told TMZ.

The Mayweather and Orbach bid is estimated to be around $700 million.

Orbach is no stranger to owning stakes in professional sports teams. The real estate magnate owns around 17% of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

TMZ’s report states Mayweather and Co. plan to submit the offer soon.

Giants Selling Part Of Team

John Mara and Steve Tisch have each controlled 50% of the Giants for their respective families since 2005.

Mara and Tisch are potentially looking to sell up to 10% of the team.

“The Mara and Tisch families have retained Moelis & Company to explore the potential sale of a minority, non-controlling stake in the New York Giants,” the team said in a statement. “There will be no further comment in regard to the process.”

The Giants were valued at $7.3 billion by CNBC in August 2024.

A sale could set the record for an NFL team’s valuation.

The NFL approved a policy in August allowing private equity firms to buy up to 10% of NFL teams.

Tom Brady recently ed an ownership group that acquired a 10% stake in the Las Vegas Raiders. Brady controls 5% of the portion.

Could Eli Manning be added to Mayweather’s team to sweeten the bid?

Manning told CNBC he would be interested in owning a stake in the New York Giants.

“It’s definitely something of interest,” said Manning. “There’s probably only one team I’d be interested in pursuing, and it’s the one I played for for 16 years, and it’s local, and makes the most sense, but we just got to figure out if they would ever sell a little bit.”
