Draymond Green Wins NBA Hustle Award For 2024-25 Season

During the final weeks of the 2024-25 regular season, NBA Defensive Player of the Year award. He came up short in the voting, finishing third behind Evan Mobley and Dyson Daniels. But he isn’t going to be empty-handed, as he was named the winner of another end-of-season award on Friday.
Draymond Green Takes Home Regular Season NBA Award
The “NBA Hustle Award” has been handed out every year since 2017. It is given to players who, as the league describes, “best utilize hustle to help their teams win on a nightly basis”.
And while it may seem like a subjective trait, the award is not actually voted on, but measured by certain statistics. There are nine specific stat categories that are taken into consideration: deflections, screen assists, charges drawn, offensive and defensive loose balls recovered, contested 2-point and 3-point shots, and offensive and defensive box outs.
The NBA announced that Green ranked in the top-15 in five of the categories, and that he is the first player to rank inside the top-40 in all nine categories. The players that came up short this year included Cason Wallace and Luguentz Dort.

It is Green’s first time winning the award in the nine years of its existence. Patrick Beverly won in its inaugural year in 2017, and Marcus Smart has been given the honors on three different occasions. Others who have won the award are Amir Johnson, Montrezl Harrell, Thaddeus Young, and Alex Caruso.
It is a small consolation for Draymond Green, who had his hopes set on nabbing the Defensive Player of the Year honors. Arguably the most impactful defender of the current generation, he has won the award just one time in his career, and this was likely his last shot as he advances in age.
But he and the Warriors have their sights set on an even more important piece of hardware. The team experienced a positive surge during the final weeks of the regular season, and are mentioned as one of the NBA title contenders despite being the 7th seed in the playoffs.
They are currently tied 1-1 with the Houston Rockets in Round 1 of the postseason. Game 3 is set for Saturday night in San Francisco.
