The Saquon Barkley was front and center, and much of the news from the proceedings surrounds the 28-year-old running back and his relationship with President Donald Trump.

Donald Trump Makes False Claim About New York Giants

Barkley first made headlines by spending the day with Trump on Sunday. The two met ahead of the Eagles’ ceremony, and took to the links to share a round of golf. Barkley was photographed off of the course as well, chumming it up with the President and posing for picture opportunities.

Backlash predictably followed, which Barkley took to social media to respond to. He reiterated the fact that he played golf with Barack Obama no more than 6 months ago, saying that he simply “respects the office”.

Then, during the honoring ceremony itself, Donald Trump made one of his outlandish claims that has already proven to be false. He brought up Barkley’s situation with Philadelphia, and referenced his old team in the New York Giants. And according to Trump, he did what he could to make sure that Barkley stayed in the Big Apple:

“I was with the Giants, the head coach and some people. And I said, ‘Do anything you have to, but don’t lose Saquon.’ They lost Saquon. That was not good. I called that one. That was an easy one to call because he played damn well for the Giants, I can tell you that.”

A spokesperson for the Giants immediately denied the claims, labeling them as false.

Of the players who opted not to attend the ceremony headed by President Donald Trump, Jalen Hurts appears to be the biggest omission. The Super Bowl MVP was asked on Thursday if he was planning on being in Washington, DC for the festivities, which was a question that he met with silence. Eagles team owner Jeffrey Lurie was present, as was head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman.
