Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard has suffered an injury that will keep him out indefinitely.

Damian Lillard Out Indefinitely

Lillard has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right calf, the team announced on Tuesday.

Deep vein thrombosis is better known as a blood clot. Lillard is currently on blood-thinning medication to stabilize the deep vein thrombosis.

“Damian’s health is our No. 1 priority,” Bucks general manager Jon Horst said in a statement. “We will him as he moves through this weekly process of strict criteria to ensure that it is safe for him to return to play. Doctors have indicated that his situation is very unlikely to occur again. We are thankful that this was identified and medicated quickly, which helps with the recovery.”

Lillard has missed the Bucks’ last three games with a right calf strain. The 34-year-old point guard missed time earlier this season with an injury to the same calf.

“It’s unfortunate that something outside of my control would come up,” Lillard said in a statement to Chris Haynes. “Along with the Bucks’ medical staff, our priorities are to protect my health and safety. As much as I love basketball, I need to be there for my kids and my family. I’m grateful the Bucks acted quickly on this. They’ve been ive and proactive throughout this process. I look forward to moving past this and continuing my career.”

Where Does This Leave The Bucks For The Rest Of The Season?

Entering Tuesday, the Bucks are 40-31 and are fifth in the Eastern Conference.

The Bucks have lost six of their last 10 games and only hold a half-game lead over the Detroit Pistons for the No. 5 seed.

Lillard has returned to form this year as one of the Eastern Conference’s best point guards. Lillard is averaging 24.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists on shooting splits of 44.8/37.6/92.1.

Lillard was named to his ninth All-Star game last month.

Milwaukee is 8-5 without Lillard in the lineup this season.

The Bucks have 11 regular-season games remaining before the playoffs.
