The Dallas Cowboys have traded for New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton III. Find out the details of the trade below.

Cowboys Trade For Joe Milton

The Cowboys have found their next backup quarterback.

The Cowboys have traded a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Patriots for Milton and a 2025 seventh-round pick.

The Patriots took Milton in the sixth round of last year’s draft. Milton was predominantly the third-string quarterback behind Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett.

Milton did get a chance to start in the Patriots’ season finale.

Milton completed 22 of 29 es for 241 yards and one touchdown. The rookie also rushed for one score.

Milton’s win knocked the Patriots from the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to No. 4.

Milton is known for his barrel-like size and a cannon for an arm.

With the Patriots g Joshua Dobbs last month to be the backup, Milton would have been the third quarterback until this trade happened.

Cowboys Get Their Backup QB

The Cowboys have found their backup quarterback for 2025.

Cooper Rush, the Cowboys’ No. 2 quarterback, signed a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens this offseason.

Trey Lance, the team’s No. 3 quarterback last season, remains unsigned.

Milton comes in and should firmly be the No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott. Before the Milton acquisition, Will Grier was the only other quarterback on the Cowboys’ roster besides Prescott.

Prescott is coming off a season-ending hamstring injury he suffered in Week 9 of the 2024 season.

With Prescott turning 32 this summer, Dallas elected for more youth at the backup position by getting the 25-year-old Milton.
