As Corey Heim stood tall in Victory Lane at Texas Motor Speedway last Saturday, Ben Rhodes and Daniel Hemric slumped back to their pit stalls.

As Heim celebrated the result of the final overtime restart, Rhodes and Hemric were left with feelings of regret, falling short of earning the SpeedyCash.com 250 title.

Heim, who led a race-high 96 rotations, started Lap 172 on the inside of the front row, next to Rhodes. Over the opening two turns, the two kept pace with each other.  Along Turn 3, with the white flag set to fly, Heim and Rhodes made , forcing the No. 99 Ford up the track just enough for the No. 11 Toyota to maintain its edge over Hemric, who was creating a bottom-lane charge.

With the three rivals racing three-wide, Heim surged to his third win this season.

Rhodes spoke up moments after the photo-finish ruling went to Heim.

“I think we got used up by the 11 being on the outside line with clean air on both of our noses,” Rhodes said, as reported by NASCAR.com. “He just decided to run us up the track and out of the groove at both ends of the track.

“So, you know, I’m not gonna cry about it, but it just stinks.”

Hemric may have benefited from the Heim-Rhodes duel, costing to a runner-up finish.

“I knew when they got side by side I’d have a big run,” Hemric said. “(I) just didn’t have enough left to make it stick.”

Entering Saturday’s event at Kansas Speedway, Heim (+130), the series points leader, drew top sports-betting odds to capture the drivers’ championship, according to BetOnline Sportsbook.
