With the NASCAR Xfinity Series off this week, 18-year-old Connor Zilisch continues to plan for his competitive future.

Zilisch, who appeared in two Cup Series events earlier this season, confirmed that he has agreed to drive in two additional Cup events for Trackhouse Racing. He is slated to pilot the No. 87 Chevrolet at Atlanta Motor Speedway on June 28 and Watkins Glen International on Aug. 10.

“So stoked,” he posted on social media. “Two awesome tracks I get to experience the (Cup) car.”

Zilisch made his Cup debut at Circuit of The Americas in March and crashed out after 49 laps. In his second outing, he earned a P23 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Xfinity series returns for The Chilango 150 Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on June 14. A rookie-of-the-year candidate, Zilisch, who has one win and three top-five finishes in 13 starts, ranks fifth in the drivers’ standings. He also posted three poles.

Through 13 starts, points leader Justin Allgaier (+220) remains the sports-betting favorite to capture the circuit championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, followed by Austin Hill (+400) and Zilisch (+500).

NASCAR Officials Penalize JR Motorsports

After rookie Connor Zilisch drove the No. 88 Chevrolet to a runner-up finish during last Saturday’s event at Nashville Superspeedway, NASCAR officials issued penalties to JR Motorsports.

During a post-race inspection, two unsecured lug nets were discovered, violating a portion of the NASCAR Rule Book.

Crew chief Mardy Lindley was issued a one-race suspension and the organization was fined $10,000. Lindley will not work the June 21 event at Pocono Raceway.
