The Indianapolis Colts drafted Anthony Richardson first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft in hopes that he’d be their quarterback of the future. Two years later, there are more questions than answers regarding the strong-armed thrower, and there will likely be a quarterback competition during the team’s training camp later this summer.

Can Daniel Jones Win Colts Starting QB Job?

The Colts offseason hasn’t gotten off to the best start and there are rumors swirling around former first-round pick Anthony Richardson. Richardson was a raw prospect coming out of college but his lack of development has been surprising under head coach Shane Steichen. He threw just 24 combined touchdown es in his three years at the University of Florida, but had the physical tools and potential to put him into consideration for a top-5 pick. The Colts solidified that notion by taking a chance on him with the No. 4 pick just over two years ago.

Things haven’t exactly played out the way either party had hoped. Richardson has started 15 games in his first two seasons in the league, and has thrown 11 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. His completion percentage in 2024 was 47.7%, the worst mark in the NFL by a very wide margin. While he’s shown flashes, he’s also left a lot to be desired on the field.

There was even a highly publicized incident in which Richardson took himself out of a game, citing that he “needed a breather”.

As a result, the team has brought in some competition for Richardson this offseason, but it appears that the third-year man will have the upper hand, at least according to the oddsmakers. Richardson is listed as the heavy favorite to win the quarterback competition, listed at -350 to be under center come Week 1.

Anthony Richardson -350
Daniel Jones +195
Riley Leonard +2500

Newcomer and former New York Giants signal caller Daniel Jones is next on the list. He is listed at +195 to win the job.

Jones is hoping that a change of scenery will help rejuvenate his career. The former 6th overall pick had a tough go during his first six years in the NFL, especially his most recent campaigns. The Giants cut ties halfway through the 2024 regular season, and Jones landed a backup job with the Vikings. He never took the field in a Minnesota uniform.

Projected third string QB Riley Leonard is listed at a distant +2500 to be named the starter.
