The MLB entering the 2025 season. Now, nearly two months into their schedule, they are on pace to be one of the worst teams in the long history of the game.

Rockies On Pace For One Of The Worst Seasons In MLB History

Before the season began, oddsmakers placed Colorado’s over/under win total at 58.5, the second lowest of any team, behind only the Chicago White Sox. They had finished 2024 with a record of 61-101, one of the worst marks in franchise history, but two wins better than their previous season in 2023.

There weren’t any marked improvements during this past off-season, and very little reason to believe that the Rockies would be any better for the current campaign.

That over/under designation of 58.5 might be looking a little bit generous at this point. Before their surprising victory on Friday night against the Yankees, the first 50 games for the Rockies had resulted in them posting a record of 8-42, which is the worst start for any MLB team in the last 130 years. Way back in 1895, the Louisville Colonels got off to a 7-43 start.

If they are to stay on the same current pace for the full 162 games this season, they’ll end up with the most losses of any team in MLB history. Their 50-game pace put them on track to finish the season with a record of 26-136, which would be a full 15 games worse than the historically bad 2024 White Sox.

The pace would be two games worse than that of the 1899 Cleveland Spiders, who finished their season with 134 losses in a 154-game slate.

As a team, the Rockies are hitting at an abysmal .219 batting average, the second-worst current mark of any team. They rank in the bottom three in hits, RBIs, and home runs, and no team has struck out more. Their pitching isn’t any better, with their overall team ERA currently sitting at 5.74 and have the worst WHIP of any team by a long shot.
