Celtics Set NBA Single Season 3-Point Record

The mark that they broke only stood for two years. The game of basketball itself has changed during the last ten years, as players and teams have become more reliant on the outside shot. Of the ten teams that rank in the top-10 in most threes in a single season, eight of them have come since the 2021-22 campaign. The other two were accomplished by the Houston Rockets in 2017-18 and 2018-19.

The 2022-23 version of the Golden State Warriors were the ones who held the NBA record that this year’s Celtics broke. Steph Curry and company successfully made 1,363 three pointers two seasons ago, which eclipsed one of those Rockets’ campaigns.

Boston narrowly missed taking over the top spot on the list just a year ago. The 2023-24 Celtics made 1,351 long balls, which was 12 short of the all-time mark. They got close the season before, too, when they made 1,315 in total.

The last three Celtics’ seasons rank in the top-5 all time in most three-pointers made in a single NBA season.

The defending champions are also the team that attempts the most shots from beyond the arc, and by a wide margin. The Celtics are averaging 48.3 attempts per game as we enter the final week of the regular season, which is nearly six full attempts more than any other team in the league. They rank 10th in their efficiency on the shots, making them at a 36.8% clip.

Boston will certainly be adding to their three-point total, as they have five more games to play before the conclusion of the regular season.
