Ben Johnson Speaks About Caleb Williams

Johnson recently appeared with Colin Cowherd on The Herd. During the interview, Cowherd brought up Williams’ tumultuous 2024 season that ended with a 5-12 record.

Cowherd acknowledged Williams’ doubts about the Bears’ organization and their poor track record of developing quarterbacks. When asked how he plans to ensure that Williams doesn’t lose faith this season, Johnson said he sees opportunities, not fears, for his quarterback to be special.

“I see this as, what a great opportunity we have to do something that has really never been done,” Williams said. “There hasn’t been a 4,000-yard er here in this franchise and I think Caleb’s going to be the first one. And one of many years, many seasons to come where he’s able to accomplish that feat.”

Johnson took things one step further and showered his second-year quarterback with even more praise.

“I see a chance for greatness here for him,” Johnson added. “He’s been communicated that way and he feels the same way. I don’t know what’s gone on prior to him ing the organization but he is very proud to be a Chicago Bear. That’s what our conversations have included and he’s really excited to get to work right now to be the best version of himself for 2025.”

Caleb Williams Report About His Problems With The Bears

On Thursday, ESPN shared several stories about Williams from Seth Wickersham’s book, American Kings: A Biography of the Quarterback

After attending the NFL Combine, Williams hit it off with Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell and wanted to find a way to play in Minnesota.

Caleb and his father, Car Williams, considered asking the Bears to trade him to the Vikings. However, Bears general manager Ryan Poles refused to entertain any trade discussions.

Because of the Bears’ struggles with quarterbacks, Williams considered playing in the UFL for the 2024 season before becoming an NFL free agent in 2025.

During the season, Williams reportedly had no mentorship from head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. The coaches did not tell Williams what to watch during the film, which stunted his development.

With Johnson in Chicago, expect things to change for Williams.
