Rodgers told McAfee that his future with the Jets hinges on the new head coach and general manager. Rodgers inferred that the coach and general manager, not owner Woody Johnson, will likely have the final say.
“I think everybody understands that it’s going to come down to a GM and a coach and myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards,” Rodgers said.
The Jets have been one of the most active teams during this hiring cycle. The organization has spoken with and requested interviews with over 30 candidates. Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn appears to be the favorite for the Jets’ position.
It was a tumultuous season for Rodgers and the Jets, who finished 5-12. After a 2-3 start, the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and promoted Jeff Ulbrich to interim head coach. Ulbrich went 3-9 in the remaining games.
Rodgers Will Take Some Time To Make His Decision

Rodgers has contemplated retirement before and said he will take some time to make his decision. However, Rodgers will see who the Jets hire first before contemplating his future and determining if he wants to play a 21st season.
“As far as my own decision, I told them I’m going to take some time,” Rodgers said. “They haven’t even made a decision on the GM or a coach yet. Once that happens, then that’ll take us to the next step, which is a conversation, I’m assuming, with whoever that individual is.”
Despite the team’s struggles, Rodgers ended up having one of the best statistical seasons for a Jets quarterback. Coming off Achilles surgery, Rodgers finished with 3,897 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Rodgers enters the final year of his contract in 2025.
