The second round series between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves will be must-see TV. Here are three reasons to tune into what should be a highly competitive matchup between Western Conference hopefuls:

3 Storylines To Watch In Warriors vs Wolves Matchup

Draymond Green vs Rudy Gobert

The two elite defenders of the current generation aren’t particularly fond of each other. Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert have a long history of on and off court spats, which truly began in 2019.

When cameras caught Gobert crying about not being named to the All-Star team, Green called him out on social media. A few years later, while Green was on the broadcast for the 2022 All Star Game, he called out Gobert for the same incident, and then took offense to being compared to the then-member of the Utah Jazz.

The disdain between the two peaked in 2023. During a scuffle early in a game that season, Green put Gobert in a seemingly meaningless chokehold, which resulted in a five game suspension for the Warriors forward.

In the time since, Green has continued to throw jabs at Gobert, mostly via his podcast.

Jimmy Butler vs Timberwolves Organization

Jimmy Butler isn’t exactly known leaving quietly. At nearly every stop he’s made in his NBA career, he has been a part of (created) tension and general issues when things don’t go his way.

Until his messy exit with the Heat this season, perhaps the most notable instance happened with the Timberwolves back in 2018. In a now-infamous practice session in October of that year, Butler called out and challenged teammates in front of of the team’s front office. He even turned to Minnesota’s general manager and said, “You f—-ing need me, Scott. You can’t win without me.”

All of this occurred during a time when Butler was demanding a trade.

Butler would go on to have a rocky relationship with former Timberwolves teammates over the subsequent years. There is a whole new cast of characters on the team in 2025, so some of the personal beefs may be gone. But it is likely that the Warriors wing still holds some grudges with the organization itself, and he may have extra motivation in the series.

Anthony Edwards vs The Warriors (& Draymond Green)

These two teams have had some heated battles over the past few seasons. Tempers have flared in certain games between Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards and Draymond Green of the Warriors, with the two getting into some serious trash talking incidents.

Those competitive altercations caused Edwards to call out Green and the Warriors in a 2023 interview. When asked who he preferred the Timberwolves to play against in that year’s postseason, he was able to answer quickly: “I want to play the Warriors…because Draymond talks so much trash.”

He’ll finally get his chance two years later. This will be the seventh playoff series of Anthony Edwards’ five year career, and the first against Golden State. In his career, he has averaged just shy of 24 points per game in 17 games against the Warriors, and 26 in the four matchups in 2024-25.
