Bottom of the table Southampton take on Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, and our match preview includes the latest team news and confirmed lineups ahead of the action.

Liverpool vs Southampton Preview

Premier League table-toppers Liverpool welcome bottom of the table Southampton to Anfield on Saturday afternoon, where they’ll be looking to build on their win over Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.

The Reds, inspired by an incredible performance from Alisson in between the sticks, sealed an unlikely 1-0 victory in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against the French champions. Substitute Harvey Elliott found the winner with his first touch in the 87th minute, with what was his side’s first shot on target all evening.

Arne Slot’s side will look to seal their place in the quarter-finals when PSG visit Merseyside next Tuesday.

Liverpool are now unbeaten in six successive matches since their defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup fifth round last month – a run that includes wins over Manchester City, Newcastle and Wolves, as well as draws against Aston Villa and Everton. They have since moved 13 points clear at the top of the English top-flight table.

On the opposite end, a whopping 13 points adrift of safety and eight points behind 18th and 19th place Ipswich and Leicester, the Saints head into this one off the back of four consecutive defeats across all competitions.

Their last two league outings, against Chelsea and Brighton, have ended in dreadful 4-0 losses.

Saturday’s fixture will be the third time that the south coast club have faced off against Mohamed Salah and co. this term, with both of their previous meetings, unsurprisingly, ending in 3-2 and 2-1 victories for the Reds.

Liverpool Team News

Liverpool will have to make do without defensive pairing Joe Gomez (thigh) and Conor Bradley (thigh), while Cody Gakpo (knock) could make his return to the matchday squad after missing the trip to Paris in midweek.

Youngster Tyler Morton is also out after undergoing surgery on his shoulder.

Southampton Team News

There’s just one confirmed absentee for the Saints, with Ryan Fraser (calf) ruled out through injury, while Ross Stewart (fitness) and Juan Larios (fitness) are also expected to miss out.

James Bree (thigh) is another minor doubt, along with Adam Lallana (thigh) and Jan Bednarek (fatigue), but Chelsea loanee Lesley Ugochukwu should return after being unable to face his parent club last time out.

Liverpool vs Southampton Confirmed Lineups

Liverpool Confirmed Lineup:

Liverpool vs Southampton Prediction

The UK’s best football betting sites see Liverpool as massive 1/8 favourites to come out on top on Saturday afternoon, while a draw is rated at 17/2 and a shock victory for Southampton is priced at 16/1.

It’ll come as a surprise to no one to read that we at SportsCasting, like the bookmakers, heavily favour the Reds and are predicting Slot’s men will secure a comfortable victory on home turf to maintain their 13-point lead at the summit.

Prediction: Liverpool 4-0 Southampton
