England trio Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Ollie Watkins are all unavailable for England’s Nations League matches against Ireland and Finland this month after withdrawing from Lee Carsley’s maiden squad.

The Football Association have confirmed the withdrawals of Premier League trio Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Ollie Watkins from Lee Carsley’s first Three Lions camp in the latest England squad update.

Interim manager Carsley will take charge of England for the first time on Saturday evening when they take on old rivals Ireland at the Aviva Stadium as they get their Nations League League B campaign underway after suffering a surprise relegation from League A last season.

Former U21 manager Carsley handed Noni Madueke, Tino Livramento, Angel Gomes, and Morgan Gibbs-White their maiden senior international call-ups for the camp and also recalled Harry Maguire and Jack Grealish after they missed out on the 2024 European Championship in .

As is standard when international fixtures come around though, there have been enforced withdrawals, with both Palmer and Watkins pulling out due to fitness concerns, while Foden remains ruled out due to illness.

An England statement read: “The Three Lions squad reported to St. George’s Park on Tuesday but, following assessment, both Palmer and Watkins returned to their clubs to continue rehabilitation for ongoing issues.

“Foden did not report through illness and is ruled out of the matches against Republic of Ireland and Finland.

“No further additions are planned at this moment in time.”

After facing Ireland in their Nations League opener on Saturday evening, England return to base camp before hosting Finland at Wembley Stadium to close out September’s international window on Tuesday night.
