The thinking here is to give race planners and the horse racing media more time to promote the race. Not to mention punters extra time to study the form armed with the final Derby draw and jockeys.

By bringing the final Epsom Derby runners forward 24 hours, this is expected to help the build up to the race.

The Derby, which was first run in 1780, has a long history and is also often billed as the best flat race in the world – so race organisers this year have decided to declare runners early in order to help the race gain more interest.

These early Derby declarations will now allow horse racing punters more time to study the form – armed with the final jockeys and draw.

Plus, the racing media around the world will also embrace the change, giving them added time to promote the fourth English Classic of the season.

In 2024 the Derby was shown by a record 36 broadcasters and across a massive 160 different territories around the world.

The Derby will also become the first Group One race in Britain to declare their final runners 72-hours ahead of the race on Saturday.

The 2025 Epsom Derby Draw will be held at the Epsom Picturehouse in the centre of town.

Horse racing officials and the media are expected to be invited to the event, with the draw set to take place between 10am and 11am on Wednesday 4th June.

The Epsom Picturehouse, which was formed in 1989, is situated on Derby Square in Epsom – with the new-look cinema having only opened in June 2024.

While instead of the old randomly generated way of doing the Epsom Derby Draw, this year the horses will be given their draws by the traditional method of picking balls.
