The war of words between UFC heavyweight champions Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones shows no sign of slowing, with Aspinall the latest to pour fuel on the fire.

Interim champion Tom Aspinall caused a stir on social media this week.

On Monday, he posted on Instagram with the caption “Heavyweight news. Coming soon.”

This, rather unsurprisingly, led to a flurry of speculation from fans about whether Aspinall was finally ready to announce a fight with undisputed champion Jon Jones.

But this theory, along with talk of an interim title defence against another opponent, was quickly shot down.

Tom Aspinall Trolls Jon Jones With Social Media ‘Announcement’

In a teasing post via Instagram, Aspinall ed a picture with the date 28 May, captioned “Heavyweight news. Coming soon.”

But as quickly as fans began to wonder if a fight with Jones was imminent, the Brit revealed he was joking.

Replying to comments on his post, Aspinall joked: “Sorry, guys, I’m fighting for a new belt. Interim of the interim BMF UFC heavyweight title. Living my best life.”

He later added: “UFC announce my fights guys, not me.”

Aspinall’s reference to “living my best life” is a not-so-subtle dig at Jon Jones.

Jones recently responded to suggestions he was ducking a fight with Aspinall by saying: “I’m living my absolute best life. I don’t know if it’s considered ducking when you’re living good. I don’t think it works like that.”

Is Jon Jones Vs Tom Aspinall Ever Going To Happen?

All of this continued circus serves only as a distraction to many. Tom Aspinall Vs Jon Jones is the fight millions around the world wish to see, but right now it doesn’t look likely.

Just last week, Jon Jones said he was ‘done’ with fighting after being asked when he was returning to the octagon.

Aspinall has now been the interim UFC heavyweight champion for well over 500 days, but Jones has not been forced to vacate the belt.

Despite increasing pressure, Jones has made it clear he does not care about the possibility of having his title taken off of him.

Tom Aspinall has been keen to fight Jon Jones for a long time.

He said via Twitter (now X): “Stripped? Lol do I come across as the type of person who cares about things like that?”

“Ya’ll barking up the wrong tree, I told the UFC my plans a long time ago. I have no clue why they haven’t shared them with you guys yet.”

This attitude has led to growing frustration, with Aspinall recently offering Jon Jones an ultimatum.

The British fighter has suggested money is the primary concern for Jones.

He said: “Me personally, I can’t do anything. I think it’s just down to money, on his side. I’ll fight whenever, wherever he wants, but it’s down to money, I think.”

Tom Aspinall Stats And Record

Tom Aspinall has held the UFC interim heavyweight title for more than 530 days.
