Erling Haaland will be out for up to seven weeks after picking up an ankle injury, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed. 

The two-time Golden Boot-winning striker picked up the injury during Man City’s 2-1 victory over Bournemouth in Saturday’s (29 March) FA Cup quarter-final. Haaland, who scored the equaliser against the Cherries in the 49th minute, came off the pitch just past the hour mark.

The Manchester City No. 9 left the Vitality Stadium on crutches, with his left ankle covered by a protective boot.

Manchester City, who are pushing to secure a place in the top four, will return to Premier League action with a clash against Leicester City on Wednesday, 2 April. In the pre-match press conference, a dejected Guardiola confirmed Haaland’s injury.

He said (via BBC):

They told me the doctors say between five to seven weeks. 

So hopefully the end of the season and by the Club World Cup he will be ready. Sometimes, there are years when these kinds of things happen. It happened all season.

Manchester City have confirmed that Haaland will see a specialist in the coming days to recover from the setback.

Haaland has played 40 matches for City in all competitions this season, scoring 30 goals and providing four assists.

He would also miss the FA Cup final (on 17 May) if Man City manage to overcome Nottingham this month.

Unless Haaland recovers ahead of schedule, he will only be able to play against Fulham in the final Premier League game of the season on 25 May.
