Scotland relegated to League B in UEFA Nations League after stunning 3-0 defeat vs Greece

Scotland have been relegated to League B in the UEFA Nations League after a crushing 3-0 defeat to Greece at Hampden Park.

The Tartan Army entered today’s clash with a 1-0 advantage from Thursday’s first leg win in Greece thanks to Scott McTominay’s first-half penalty.

Things started on the back foot for the hosts when Greece drew level on aggregate after 20 minutes through Giannis Konstantelias’ tidy finish from a clever pull-back by Giorgos Vagiannidis.

The visitors were ahead in the tie and doubled their advantage in the match on the stroke of half-time when Genk starlet Konstantinos Karetsas became Greece’s youngest-ever goalscorer.

Konstantelias was involved again, setting up the 17-year-old with a beautiful first-time effort inside the area which found the top corner and left Craig Gordon rooted to the spot.

The Greeks were soon 3-0 up just 15 seconds after the restart and it was another assist for PAOK talisman Konstantelias, punishing a bit of sloppy possession by the hosts and sending Christos Tzolis through on goal for the dagger.

Scotland pulled together two decisive wins at the end of their Nations League group campaign to give themselves a shot at remaining in the top tier but it wasn’t to be in Glasgow on Sunday.

Steve Clarke’s side now look ahead to a key World Cup qualifying campaign in the autumn where they’ll face Greece again alongside Belarus and Denmark/Portugal.

Looking at the bigger picture, the Nations League is the least of their worries as they look to make it to America in 2026 and record a first World Cup appearance since 1998.
