Leeds Overcome Stubborn Millwall At Elland Road To Move Back To Top Of The Championship

Watch Leeds Vs Millwall highlights as Leeds United regained control of the Championship title race with a 2-0 victory at Elland Road.
On a nervy night in West Yorkshire, Leeds had to work for their victory in order to move back above Sheffield United at the top of the table.
Daniel Farke’s side had fallen below the Blades after Sheffield United’s 1-1 draw with Bristol City on Tuesday.
But Leeds got back to winning ways for the first time in March, having drawn with West Brom and lost to Portsmouth.
The defeat to Pompey was their first loss in 17 league matches, and cost them top spot until tonight.
But victory against Millwall means Leeds now have a two-point lead over Sheffield United, and a four-point gap to third-placed Burnley.
Leeds were gifted an early advantage when Manor Solomon’s cut-back cross found its way in off the leg of Millwall defender Jake Cooper.
But despite Solomon smashing one against the crossbar, it wasn’t until the 85th minute that the hosts doubled their advantage and made the result safe.
Ao Tanaka eventually grabbed Leeds’ second with a first-time strike from the edge of the box five minutes from full time.
Watch: Leeds United Vs Millwall Highlights
While Leeds are back on top of the pile and look destined for automatic promotion, Millwall have lost ground in the playoff race.
The Lions are now 13th in the table, eight points adrift of sixth-placed Coventry.
With nine games to go in the Championship season, there’s plenty of football still to play, but they’d need to put together a very strong run-in to be in with a chance.
Next up, Leeds are away to QPR on Saturday, before hosting Swansea City on 29 March.
For Millwall, they are also back in action on Saturday, hosting Stoke City at 12:30pm.
