Liverpool Extend Lead At Top Of The Premier League To 13 Points With Comfortable 2-0 Win Over Newcastle
Premier League leaders Liverpool were of course pre-match favourites with the best football betting sites to beat Newcastle United under the Anfield lights on Wednesday night, which they did with a 1-0 victory.
The Reds haven’t lost a Premier League game since back in September to Nottingham Forest, and looked to possibly extend their lead at the top of the table with Arsenal dropping points against Nottingham Forest after a goalless draw.
Arne Slot‘s side gave themselves every chance of that after taking the lead in just 11 minutes through Dominik Szoboszlai. The midfielder was found in the centre of the area by Luis Diaz, before ing home with ease to put the Reds in front.
The remainder of the first half was relatively quiet by Liverpool’s standards, with the visitors also playing some nice football but unable to break the resolute home defence.
Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah had two half chances to double Liverpool’s lead before the break, but were unable to do so.
HT: Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
The Reds continued to be the team in the ascendancy after the restart, going forward at every opportunity, looking to put the game to bed. To the relief of the home crown, they doubled their lead just after the hour mark through Alexis Mac Allister.
Mo Salah opted to pick his teammate out inside the box instead of beating a man and potentially scoring himself, with Mac Allister finding the top corner with his right foot to send Anfield into raptures.
The hosts did have a couple of chances to add a third and further stamp their authority, but couldn’t quite add another goal. That being said, it was another stellar performance from the rampant Reds who haven’t lost in the Premier League since September.
Tonight’s 2-0 victory for Liverpool means they extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to a huge 13 points ahead of Arsenal in second place, who could only get a point on their travels to the City Ground earlier this evening.
You might even say that Liverpool have one hand on the Premier League trophy already, with just 10 league matches remaining for Arne Slot’s side. They will certainly take some stopping, that’s for sure.
