Frank Lampard has been confirmed as a contender for the Coventry City manager position following the departure of Sky Blues boss Mark Robins.
Coventry owner Doug King revealed former Lampard is in the running in an interview this week.
Speaking to Sky Sports, King said: “We’ve received a huge amount of CVs from high-quality people, of which Frank is one,
“We’ve done nothing on that process. Clearly we’re in the international break. We’ll be assessing everything.
“We’ll work out who’s going to make the shortlist and we’ll go from there.”
Frank Lampard Among Numerous Coventry Candidates
Lampard has not managed in football since his brief return to Stamford Bridge towards the end of 2022/23.
Acting as caretaker manager, he stepped back into the Chelsea dugout after the sacking of Graham Potter.
Before that, Lampard cut his teeth at Derby County in the Championship, so has experience in the league Coventry are trying to earn promotion from.
He then spent time at Everton and Chelsea in the Premier League, but struggled with both clubs.
Currently the bookies’ favourite to succeed Mark Robins at Coventry, Lampard is one of numerous candidates being discussed.
These include former Sky Blues striker Robbie Keane, as well as current interim England boss Lee Carsley.
Carsley also played for Coventry, and has been linked with a return to the club.
Another man in the frame is Wycombe Wanderers boss, Matt Bloomfield. However, the League One leaders will be reluctant to let their manager go as they chase promotion back to the second tier, and Bloomfield himself has dismissed the suggestion.
He told BBC Radio: “I’ve not heard anything from my club. It’s just speculation as far as I’m concerned.
“But it’s lovely to be linked with jobs higher up the food chain because it shows that the job you’re doing is the right one.”
Having parted company with long-time boss Robins, Coventry are keen to make sure they hire the right man.
First-team coach Rhys Carr has been made caretaker boss. He will be in the dugout on Saturday as Coventry travel to Sunderland.
