Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran’s new contract means he will now stay at the club until 2030 after he penned a two-year extension on Monday.

The 20-year-old Colombian moved to the West Midlands in January 2023, becoming manager Unai Emery’s second g since taking charge in October 2022.

Duran arrived from MLS club Chicago Fire in a deal worth £18 million. His initial contract was a five-and-a-half-year deal which ran until 2028.

But having now signed for a further two years, he has committed his future to the club.

The news will no doubt be welcomed by Villa fans, with Duran making a red-hot start to the season.

He has scored six times already in all competitions, including the winning goals against Leicester City, Everton and West Ham in the Premier League.

But the pick of his half-dozen so far was this absolutely stunning strike against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

That goal earned Villa a famous, 1-0 victory over the German giants in their first Champions League game at Villa Park in 42 years.

Duran now has 14 goals in 56 total appearances for Villa. He has also scored once in 12 senior caps for the Colombian national team.

Jhon Duran New Contract Silences Rumours Of Exit

With the youngster making such a strong start to the campaign, rumours were already circulating about a possible exit in the near future.

Duran was reportedly close to leaving Villa over the summer, with Chelsea and West Ham interested.

But this new deal is a statement of intent from both the player and his club.

Tying down one of the brightest young talents in the Premier League has silenced those suggesting Duran may be looking for the exit door at Villa Park.

And at just 20, it’s clear Duran’s room for improvement is what most excites manager Unai Emery.

Speaking after the victory over Bayern Munich, Emery said: “He [Duran] arrived here two years ago and he is young, his potential is huge.

“Sometimes he has been impatient and I need to speak to him as a person and connect to him as a person.

“As well as a player to try to let him play, putting him on the field because his talent is there and the capacity to help us. This is the talent that some players have and when Jhon Durán has the ball he is scoring quickly.”
