NBA Rumors: Has Trae Young Played His Last Game With The Atlanta Hawks?

Will Trae Young Have A New NBA Team Next Season?
Young had one of the worst statistical seasons of his career this year. He did lead the league in assists by posting 11.6 per game, but posted his lowest scoring average since his rookie year. He has never been the most efficient scorer, but both his 3-point and overall shooting percentages were the lowest since his first year, as well.
The Hawks finished with a 40-42 record on the season and qualified for the Play-In Tournament, but were bounced out by the Miami Heat in the second game.
It is just the latest chapter for a team that has mostly underachieved with Trae Young as their best player. During his seven years in the NBA, Atlanta has finished 5 games over .500 just once, and have made it out of the first round of the playoffs just a single time as well. His ability to be the best player on a championship contender has come into serious question, and the Hawks could be looking to move on from the relationship.

There were rumors that the Hawks were shopping Young at the most recent trade deadline, but no type of transaction ever expired. Given his contract situation (he has the right to become a free agent after next season) it would make sense that the team will continue to search for value in return for their asset.
There would likely be a market for Young, but some NBA teams would be wary of bringing him in. He is ultimately a defensive liability, and hasn’t had the needed efficiency on the offensive end in order to even things out. His cap hit is set at just shy of $46 million in 2025-26, which puts him on par with Luka Doncic and ahead of Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton.
