Paula Badosa

Paula Badosa was scheduled to play Tuesday night’s Stefanos Tsitsipas.  Reportedly, a new partner will be identified sometime today.

This is unfortunate news on top of her retirement from the Merida Cup last week with what looked like a back issue.  Fans collectively held their breath about this because a chronic back issue kept Badosa out of the game for nearly two years.  She returned healthy and dominant last year and earned WTA Comeback Player of the Year honors.  Thankfully, she remains in the main draw for the BNP Paribas Open.  Badosa, the 2021 Indian Wells champion, has a first-round bye and is scheduled to play the winner of the Caroline Dolehide and Kamilla Rakhimova match on Friday, March 7.

The Eisenhower Cup is a fun event that kicks off main draw play at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.  Badosa s her good friend Aryna Sabalenka who is also sitting out of this year’s festivities.  Sabalenka, who won the event with Taylor Fritz in 2023,  withdrew recently and was replaced by Elena Rybakina.

Who Could Replace Paula Badosa?

In 2023, Tsitsipas paired with his Greek compatriot Maria Sakkari.  She is partnered with Casper Ruud.

Madison Keys is the only American woman playing the Eisenhower Cup this year.  Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula are possibilities.  Ons Jabeur is a fan favorite and would be a fun addition.

Eisenhower Cup Pairings

  1. Madison Keys and Tommy Paul
  2. Maria Sakkari and Casper Ruud
  3. Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur
  4. Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz
  5. Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti
  6. Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz
  7. Emma Navarro and Ben Shelton, defending champions
  8. Partner TBD and Stefanos Tsitsipas
