For the first time in league history, the NFL is flexing a game for Thursday Night Football. The NFL is moving the Week 16 game between the Denver Broncos (6-5) and Los Angeles Chargers (7-3) on Sunday, Dec. 22, to Thursday, Dec. 19.

NFL Flexes Broncos vs. Chargers

The Broncos will now play the Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Dec. 19 at 8:15 p.m. ET/5:15 p.m. PT on Amazon Prime Video.

The game between the Broncos and Chargers replaces the previously scheduled contest between the Cleveland Browns (3-8) and Cincinnati Bengals (4-7).

Browns vs. Bengals moves to Sunday, Dec. 22 at 1:00 p.m. on Fox.

In May 2023, the NFL approved the proposal to flex Thursday night games between Weeks 13 through 17. The game has to be flexed at least four weeks before the game. Only two Thursday Night Football games can be flexed per season.

Broncos vs. Chargers Preview

Heading into Week 12, the Broncos and Chargers are seventh and fifth in the AFC. Both teams would qualify for the postseason if the season ended today.

The Broncos are riding high off of a 38-6 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Rookie Bo Nix threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns. The Broncos hit the road in Week 12 to face the Raiders.

The Chargers picked up a crucial 34-27 victory over the Bengals in Week 11. Running back J.K. Dobbins scored the game-winning touchdown with 18 seconds to give the Chargers the victory. The Chargers host the Ravens on Monday Night Football in Week 12.

The Chargers and Broncos previously met in Week 6, with Los Angeles winning 23-16 in Denver.
